HISTORY:
In a previous life I was heavily involved in professional communications (Maritime) and on a personal level, Amateur radio(ex VK2DWF and now relinquished for some years) so of course I collected radio equipment and to a certain extent still do “just for fun” but these days I am “over it all” and have been working through a box of radio equipment sitting in the storage units.
This is my own personal programming cable for use with many KENWOOD transceivers – this cable came in so handy a long time ago.
The key here is “a long time ago” as you can see the IT connector is a DB9, yep good old fashioned RS-232 NOT a USB interface.
I am NOT supplying the programming software, it is not hard to find anyway … you could try and take a look at
chirp.danplanet.com
OR search around online, this is not difficult software to find

Just a note about the software used by me previously and how I programmed the various KENWOOD’s I came across ….
ALWAYS use an OLD PC or laptop (the latter being most convenient) We are talking 486/Pentium gear, very old but perfect for this purpose. If your software is DOS based, use real fair dinkum DOS and NO DOS BOXES etc, I ran “real” DOS with my software (3.1 I think it was!) and never had an issue. Same would apply to Windoz software, something ‘flash’ like Win 3.1 would be nice hehehehe
Of course to use this cable you need a real RS-232 DB9 port on your IT equipment.
With the above gear, programming was a snap

If you are tempted by running Windoz or DOS boxes with pseudo RS-232 ports, you may run into trouble trying to communicate between the transceiver and your IT equipment. The old gear is dirt cheap or often found free as giveaways, you don’t need fancy bells and whistles gear to program your transceiver and there is no real advantage.
Here is a list of just some KENWOOD transceivers this cable should work with.
