Originating as a peasant dance in the Dauphine region of southeastern France and requiring dancers to raise rather than slide their feet, the gavotte became popular in European courts during the Baroque era. In this setting of Gossec’s famous Gavotte In D, simple rhythms and interesting ornaments make it perfect for any concert program. Duration 3:15.
