Music Is SSAATTBB A Cappella Choir

Music Is by Michelle Willis is a moving a cappella choral work that explores the many ways music touches the human experiencefrom quiet reflection and comfort to passion, unity, and healing.

Written for SSAATTBB choir, the piece uses rich eight-part vocal harmony to bring its expressive text to life. The music begins reflectively with the words, Music is quiet reflection, is gentle and giving, it comforts the soul, before growing into a more impassioned declaration of music’s power to move people and speak to the human spirit.

The contrasting sections give singers opportunities to explore both intimate, sensitive ensemble singing and fuller dramatic expression. Its final passage returns to a thoughtful character as the choir sings of music speaking to the spirit, to the wanderer, and ultimately to us all.

Why Youll Love It

With expressive text, lush vocal writing, and no instrumental accompaniment required, Music Is is an excellent choice for accomplished high school, collegiate, community, and chamber choirs. Its message about the universal power of music makes it especially fitting for concert finales, festival programs, music-themed concerts, and performances celebrating the importance of music.

Lyrics:

Music is quiet reflection,
is gentle and giving,
it comforts the soul.

Music is moments of magic,
is moments of passion,
is moments of peace.

Oh, music rouses the nations,
cries for the wounded heart.

Music speaks to the spirit,
speaks to the wanderer,
It speaks to us all.
