I composedThe Lamplighterto celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original publication ofA Childs Garden of Versesin 1994 and Piano Safaris release of newly revised editions of all four books from the Robert Louis Stevenson piano and poetry series.

The Lamplighterconsists of five intermediate piano solos that fill the musical and technical gap betweenA Childs Garden of VersesandWindy Nights and Other Tales. Various pianistic techniques are used to explore the imagery and emotions found in the poems.
